Well, looks like we have a house chicken

Sunday, October 28, 2012
At the end of last week we moved my sons baby chicks to the main coop, wouldn't you know it that would be the night that a  small opossum got into the coop. His only white chick got attacked but I was there in time to save it and move her(Snow White) into the house. We did lose one the next night but it was a roosters so not to big a deal. We have fixed the coop door to keep out the opossum out. We did not know if she was going to make it but after two full days in the house she is doing very good. Since she is going to have some damage to her under side she is going to become a house chicken. We are going to make her a nice place to stay in at night to keep her save from all the cats. Right now she is on the floor behind me on her blanket. Most of my cats know what a chicken is for I have over 30 of them outside all the time.
This a picture that we took this morning while she was out after the night. Yes there is a cat and a dog in the picture and they don't bother her at all. We do have to watch the cats for it is natural for them to attack a chicken. I am going to make her some chicken diapers as soon as I can find a pattern form them. I just have to watch for she was a bit chewed up under her wings. Yes that is me in the back. Bobo is the cat that is in the picture, he is a great cat.

Today we got the door to the family room fixed so it will shut, man it is a lot warmer in here. I hope that this will help with the heating and cooling.

My new toy

Well I was going to get my Kitchen-aid Mixer the first of the month but my son got it for me this last weekend. I have used it everyday since. Now that I have it I hope that the new don't wear out. So far I have made Mash Potatoes, Chocolate Chip cookies, Mixed up a batch of Pancake mix and beat eggs for scrambled eggs. The eggs were great and it saved my arm. Today we are going to make a batch of BBQ sauce and a loaf or two of bread or rolls. This is the only way that I am really going to get to know how to use it right. I am very thankful that my son got this for me, for I am was build vertically challenge and mixing stuff on the counter is a challenge for me to do by hand. I love to bake so now that I have a good stove and the mixer I will be baking away.
The chickens are doing good and I am getting up to 12 eggs a day now. I have at least two chickens that are laying green eggs and that is making me happy. The last clutch of chicks that Honey brooded should be laying sometime the first of next year. Look like my son got at least three roosters and 4 hens out of his hatch. Now that the weather is cooling down it will be Spring before I hatch any more. i might have to do a clutch for my nephews girl friend since she lost all her chickens to dogs.
We are going to have to get  the fence fixed so that we can get to cow and a goat or two. We are going to have to build a pig pen too. With the  price of meat going up we are better off just growing our own, for the cost is not that much more and the quality of meat it so much better.
My son got an X-box with kinnect and we got a game that really gets me moving so I might start to lose some weight. This is a good thing since I found out that my cholesterol is a bit high and I have a thyroid problem and am now on meds for that. Will have to go back to the docs in about 6 weeks for a check up to make sure everything is working fine.
