To much to do in a short time

Friday, April 27, 2012
Looks like we are going to be moving a bit sooner than we were planning, I still have to pack. All has going very well for us getting our house. I was asked today if we would like to move the closing date up to like the 10th of May, I said "the sooner the better", so we might be closing sooner rather than later. Our original closing date is May 18. We will see what happens.
I now have 67 chick/en that I am going to have to move, some are going to relocated. Most of the eggs that I bought were mostly the same and I really don't want a lot of one kind. I would rather have many different kinds. I am going to be keeping the 4 form green eggs(two of them are Luckies), and a few of the better looking one from the other eggs. All the hens from my hens will be staying for none of them look alike really. And they are so good looking. Most of the roosters will be going in the freezer or I might just have to sell them before we move since most of them will not even be big enough to butcher out yet. Most of the hens I have lay medium to jumbo eggs so I am good with that.
See to much to do and not a lot of time to do it in, but I have done it before I can do it again. This should be the last time we move.

Good Momma hen and not so good mamma hen

Wednesday, April 25, 2012
Well 6 of the eggs hatched Monday and Honey thought that she was done wit  just the 6 so she moved off the rest of the eggs. I moved them back under my other broody hen and found out that was a bad idea. the 7th egg hatched and is doing good under Honey. Another egg Hatched but was left to get cold and die. At this point I moved the rest of the eggs into the incubator and if any hatch I hope to move them under Honey my good momma hen. Bad momma is in a cage off the ground to break her. None of the other hens bother the chicks.
I have 6 eggs in the bator and at least one of them had pipped. I will let honey set eggs again if she goes broody.
Moving is going to be a bit of a challenge with 64 or more chickens.

Not much happen

There really is not a lot going on right now. We are still waiting for everything for the house to be done and get done. so far all is going well. There is only about a month till closing if the bank does not move the date.
All the chicks are doing good, one does have a crooked beak but is plugging along. I did take her out of the main brooder with three others so she could get food and water a bit better and not have to really fight for it. Crooked beak and the other three are the only "green" eggs that hatched so I really would like to make sure I know who they are. Two of them are Luckies eggs and look nothing like Luckie or the roosters that I had at the time. I really would like to have some green eggs at some point. I have had very bad luck with incubating green eggs. out of two dozen, not counting Luckies only 2 have every hatched for me. For now I am done with incubating since we are to be moving. I do have 14 eggs under a broody hen and another hen that is broody so I hope that all will be well there.
I now have two new Heirloom tomato plants to add the my collection of heirloom plants. I also was able to find some green/red bell peppers that were an heirloom verity. i moved my tow new tomato plants into the house last night since it was a bit on the cold side, going to move them back out in a bit.. My radish and green leaf lettuce are about ready to be harvested. The carrots are doing good. The seeds that I am using are not a heirloom type so I at some point I will have to get seeds that are. I will use the seeds that I have for now so I am not wasting them.

All looks good for a move

We went to the new house yesterday for our home inspection and all looks good. As we were pulling into the drive way we saw a deer.  There are a few thing that we are going to have to have them fix before we can get the house. Monday is going to be the appraisal for our home loan, but since we have a good idea of what they are going to find that will not go and will have to be fixed we are good. What need to be fixed is all minimal. A couple of window need to be replaced, some electrical work, and a heater issue. I was thankful that my ex husband was able to do the home inspection for us. What there is to be done is all stuff that he can do if they will let him. We may not be able to get along as a married couple but we do as friends.
I am thinking of doing two chicken coops so that I can have some that can run around the yard to do pest control and them that I just don't want to lose. I might just have to get some Guineas so that I have good pest control in the 7.63 acres, yes I know they go where they like. I have about 4 to 5 o  acres that is wooded and I know they love the woods. We will have to wait and see what happens.

What the weekend is over

Sunday, April 1, 2012
This weekend was not all that bad. I had a friends kid stay over, we were going to make cookies or something but never got to it. We did get the two roosters up to the auction house and make $12.50 on them. The 5 week old chicks are out in the grow out pen with a light for at night so I can see what is going on out there. The grow out pen in less than 50 ft form my house and I can see it out the bathroom window in my room. The 31 week old chicks are in the play pen till they start to run out of room. I am not really sure what we are going to do once they are 5 weeks. I hope I will be able to tell for sure who is female out of the older ones by then to know if I can move them to the main coop from the grow out pen. That was all done Saturday. I was going try and get a make shift coop build on the grow out pen this weekend but it did not get done. They do have a dog house to use.
Sunday our friend brought 6 pallets and picked up his daughter. We looked at another house and well we put a bid on it. We will know more by Tuesday. It is nice and has just about all we want. The only thing that it don't have is a storm shelter but hey we can do that if we need. More on all that later, once we know what is going on better. Hey third time is a charm or is it three strikes your out, either could be true for this one.
