Al the babies are here

Wednesday, February 29, 2012
Well I had a 100% hatch rate and that is 16 total. they are doing
really good in there playpen brooder.
I am hoping that this Saturday I will be able to go and get some eggs from the auction to hatch next.
We are still looking for a house and at this time have to that we are going to be putting offers in on, one at a time of course. I am so itching to be able to bake and cook the way I love to. Tonight I am making a Quiche even though I really don't like to use my oven. Waiting for stuff to happen is not something that I am good at. There is a lot that I can be doing but I feel that doing any of it would be a waste at this time for I would either have to move it all or something.

Living the way that I would like to live might be a bit hard with all the crap that is going on with the "raw" food stuff. I don't see why we can not have the "raw" food if that is what we want to have. It is our lives and I really don't see why any one can tell me how to eat or what to eat. I will eat the way I want to eat, and eat what I what to eat. If I choose to milk a cow or goat and drink it in my own house then that is what I will do. For the most part I would like to live as close to the way out families did 150 yrs ago. I will grow what I can and buy what I must.
I watch shows that help teach me what it is that I really need to know. What I can not watch I read about. I have been studying for the last 5 yrs for this. I learn more everyday. I fell that if I really had to I could make it without a lot of what we have. Yes I enjoy having my computer and TV but I don't have to have them. I know how to do without if I have to. I might not really like it but if I had to I can do it.

I am a proud momma hen

Well as of now we have had 6 of the chicks hatch, one with a lot of help. most of the rest are pipped so it is just a matter of time I guess. I am getting ready to move the dryer chicks to the brooder, or I might not get any sleep today. Was up a lot in the night with the chirping from the one hatching. I am really going to need some rest since I have not been sleeping to well at night.

all 16 of the eggs hatched.

The babies are coming Check back for updates

Sunday, February 26, 2012
I woke up this morning to not one but two pips. I will be updating this post thru out the day. I am going to be away part of the day since today is our shopping day and the day that we go look at three houses. Will update as I can.
Update 6:08am
One of the ones that I had put wax on is now piping and I am so happy. I might still get a good hatch out of all this.
Update 12:16 pm
Just got back and there are 4 pips, none of them have started to zip as of yet. Will update again after we go house hunting.
Updated 8:26
I now have 11 pips yet still no chicks. Going to be going to be before to long, it has been a long day.

Will they still hatch

Saturday, February 25, 2012
The glass on the incubator broke this morning with the help of a cat. The eggs went into lock down last night so I hope that they did not get to cool while I was cleaning out the incubator and getting some plastic wrap over the hole so that some of them might still hatch. I can only wait and see what happens at this point.
The temp is holding very well with the plastic wrap over the hole, I also have a book over the hold so that the cat does not try to fall in. Will keep this post updated or post a new on once I know what is going on. We are going to fix the hole with some plexiglass after this batch hatches. I am hoping that next weekend I can go get some eggs from the auction and maybe I will be able to get some live chicks from Tractor Supply next weekend too.

That house that is not

Wednesday, February 22, 2012
The house that we had under contract is no longer under contract do to to much needing to be done for use to use the loan type that we have. To me this is a sign that we really did not want the house after all. We are going to be going out this Sunday and looking at 4 more. I know at least one or two of them should be in a lot better shape than the last one. If you really thing about it we did not need 26 acres that we were not going to be using.
With my husband work up to 12 hours a day(drive time too) 5 and 6 days a week(some 7) we would have time to tend everything that needed tending, and I sure as heck am not doing it alone.

All I need is enough land with a house that is not right next to another house where I can have my chickens, some rabbits, a pig and maybe a cow and some goats. Room for some square foot garden boxes(4x 8 or 12). Room in side for storing long term food items and canning. Really I could do it on an acre.
On a lighter note the chickens are loving there free range time, which is most of the day. All are laying in the nest boxes or where they are suppose to be. The babies(chicks) should be here on Monday night Tuesday morning so I am having to get there room ready. Being that this is the first hatch of the year I have to clean out the brooder room. So far there are 16 out of 20 and I think that is a very good number.
*funny for the day*
Snowflake love to take the insole out if my husbands boot and  treat it like a mouse, I do not know why this is but she loves to play with them boots. Sticks her head inside(PU) and attack it all.

During the summer we make our own Ice cream and I use  Cake Batter Ice Cream for the recipe. Well during the winter I am not a big fan of Ice Cream so I was looking for another recipe to use up the cake mix that I have at the end of the summer. At one time I tried  the Betty Crocker Warm Delights so I started to look for a copy cat and I found this Mini Warm Delights Cake for One and this  Copycat Warm Delights mini - Low Calorie, Low Fat.
I also found one at ehow that I am going to give a try, there is also one to use the oven here I will be try all of them over time.
I found with the ehow I had to add 1 more tablespoon of water and it worked just fine.

More about Recipe of the day

Monday, February 13, 2012
I am going to do my best to do a Recipe of the day. I may not get one up everyday but I will do my best. I might post 2 or 3 recipes in one day that I will be using that day but then I might not post another one for 2 or 3 days. Also if I make a "mix" and use it again to make another recipe I will post the recipe again but I might not have to make it at that time since I have some on hand already.
Something about the recipes that I make that I would like to let everyone know, I will be using what I have on hand or what I use everyday. See I shop at Aldis, I will be using there brands. I don't really use a lot of BRAND name items. If a recipe calls for a NAMED BRAND I will not go buy it just to make that one recipe, I will use the brand that I use daily.
I have also created a recipe archive page that I will be putting all the recipes that have been in Recipe of the day. I am doing this for two reasons, 1 so I have them close at hand and 2 so that everyone can see what I have tried.
At time I might post a recipe that I have made up myself or an idea that I tried with one of the many gadgets that I have. I have some that I have had for over 10 years and I have not used them much of late. I think that is due to a small kitchen and really no place to have them for easy access. I know of one that might be a very hard one to replace, but I love it.
As I have said "please leave comments on what you think of a recipe" I would like to know what you think. Also if you can review any recipes at the site that you have gone to to let the author know that you liked it. All the sites are FREE.

After the Move

Saturday, February 11, 2012
After the move I hope to be able to start a new part to my blog that I will call Recipe a Day. In that I will try a recipe and give my take on it. Anyone that would also like to try the recipe can and all I ask is that you leave a comment on what you thing of the recipe. If you like this idea and you would like to follow along just follow my blog it is FREE. I will be working on getting set up over the next few weeks. Testing what will work on my blog ans all that. Please let me know if it works or if you like it. I am not really sure how all of this is going to work so please bear with me as I work it out.
This is going to be sometime down the road for first I have to get my house and get moved in. I hope to be able to take two week to get all moved and all that. We do have a lot to move and a lot to get rid of. I am going to be getting new stuff for my kitchen this next Christmas since that is when I will have enough money to buy a New dehydrator and a Kitchen Aid mixer.
I think the kitchen is going to be the first room that is going to be getting a make over some what. I will post pictures of the Kitchen once we get moved in and then some of the after shots once we get the work done. The very first thing that is going to have to be taken care of is a place for the chickens and a fenced in area for the dogs for when we are not at home. I am so tired of Sadie getting stuff off the kitchen counters and eating it or just moving it to another room. I mean she is getting to where she can take a GLASS bowl and move it to the living room and clean it out with out breaking it. Yes Sheba helps once it is on the floor but it is Sadie that gets it down. I have had enough of it so after we move they will be going outside in a pen while we are OUT.
Before we move I am going to be giving my landlord a rooster and 4 hens maybe more. I don't what to have to many in the little building that is there, that I am going to have to use for them till something else can be done. Right now we are still waiting for the loan and repairs to be made. Should be sometime in March when we move, if things stay on track.

Something for a laugh

Tuesday, February 7, 2012
This is something that I got a long time back and got a good laugh out of it.

My son came home from school one day, with a smirk upon his face.
He decided he was smart enough, to put me in my place.
Guess what I learned in Civics Two, that's taught by Mr. Wright?
It's all about the laws today, The "Children's Bill of Rights."
It says I need not clean my room, don't have to cut my hair.
No one can tell me what to think, or speak, or what to wear.
I have freedom from religion, and regardless what you say,
I don't have to bow my head, and I sure don't have to pray.
I can wear earrings if I want, and pierce my tongue & nose.
I can ready & watch just what I like, get tattoos from head to toe.
And if you ever spank me, I'll charge you with a crime.
I'll back up all my charges, with the marks on my behind.
Don't preach about your morals. like your Mama did to you.
That's nothing more than mind control, and it's illegal too!
Mom. I have these children's rights, so you can't influence me,
or I'll call Children's Services Division,
better known as C.D.S
Of course my first instinct was to toss him out the door.

But the chance to teach him a lesson made me think a little more.
I mulled it over carefully, I couldn't let this go.
A smile crept upon my face, he's messing with a pro.
Next day I took him shopping at the local Goodwill store.
I told him, "pick out all you want, there's' shirts & pants galore.
I've called and checked with C.S.D who said they didn't care
If I bought you K-Mart shoes instead of those Nike Airs.
I've cancelled that appointment to take your driver's test.

The C.S.D is unconcerned so I'll decide what's best.
I said "NO time to stop and eat, or pick up stuff to munch.
And tomorrow you can start to learn to make your own sack lunch.
Just save the raging appetite, and wait till dinner time.
We're having liver and onions, a favorite dish of mine.
He asked "Can I please rent a movie, to watch on my VCR?
"Sorry, but I sold your TV for new tires on my car.
I also rented out your room, You'll take the couch instead.
The C.S.D Requires just a roof over your head.
Your clothing won't be trendy now, I'll choose what we eat.
That allowance that you used to get, will buy me something neat.
I'm selling off your jet ski, dirt-bike &roller blades.
Check out the "Parents Bill Of Rights,"
It's in effect today!
Hey hot shot, are you crying
why are you on yur knees?
Are you asking God to help you out, instead of C.S.D.?

This is for all the people that have teenagers or have already raised teenagers, or have children who will soon be teenagers or those who will be parents someday OR ANYONE WHO'D JUST GET A LAUGH... I love this

this is going to be short and sweet...

we got the house

Hatching time at last

Monday, February 6, 2012
Well I am going to start hatching at last. I have a rooster that I am going to be getting rid of and I would like to try and have some hens that are from him. I am not 100% sure that all the eggs that I have in the incubator are fertilized by him but that is ok for I am going to be keeping the other rooster that I have. I put 20 eggs in the incubator at 9:00 PM tonight.
Last year I had more roosters than hen hatch and I am hoping that this year I have more hens than roosters, I really do not need any roosters for a while. Being that it is still early and I am not going to be butchering any out till at least after it warms up outside. It might be a bit hard to get some baby chicks moved if we move at the end of march.
That is a BIG IF since I am still waiting for word form the realtor on a house we put an offer on Saturday. the wait is only till 5 PM tomorrow.
Sunday, February 5, 2012
Well, yesterday was my 11th wedding anniversary and would you believe it after 11 yrs I got flowers for the first time. I made the mistake of telling my husband that I did not like flowers, forgot to tell him unless they have roots with them. The other great thing is he singed the contract for our first house yesterday. Now I just have to wait up till Tuesday to see if they take it or not. This is going to be along wait. In  the mean time I can work on craft projects and cleaning this place. I will post what happens.

The pig is going to be going to the butcher shop March 8th so we will have fresh pork at the end of that month. As for getting any chicken in to the freezer this year we will have to wait and see. Hubby and I still have to get better and fast at it. I am hoping that we will be able add rabbit to the butcher list at some point.

The chickens are laying well now. I am getting 8 to 12 eggs a day with most being 10 or 11. At this time I am out of room for eggs since I have 9 dozen in the frig and more on the counter. I have no more egg cartons at this time so I am going to have to take the eggs up to the place that I sell them to and get more egg cartons for more. I hope soon I will be able to go to the auction and buy a bunch of them, but with trying for a house and hubby work everyday it might be a while.

Winter has been warmer than normal and still you can not really grow anything outside for it will die as soon as it get cold again. I am so looking forward to Spring so that I can start to  plant and do work outside. I am not really a person to be inside all the time but, with nothing to do outside in the winter I am inside. Crafts and the computer keeps me going. Well I guess I better get back to the cleaning that I have let go over the last few week with being sick and depressed.
