Sometime TLC is not enough

Sunday, March 27, 2011
Bad New Fourwheeler our four legged chick left this world last night, at least she did get a fighting change but I guess the second part of her just was not going to let it be. On the bright side I did get three more chickens yesterday all white ones. They seem to be doing good for the time I will take pictures later for they are molting at this time and don't look that good.
For those of you who really know me you know that all my animals get a good home and are very well taken care of and I do what it takes to try and make them happy. If I have a sick animal, that needs extra TLC well no matter what it is it will be brought in to the house and given that extra TLC. I will find a place for it to be that is save for it and all that is in the house.
We are still working on getting the garden in but at this time we are having a cold spell and there was a light frost last night. We did get all the soils for the garden bed but with rain and the cold looks like it is still going to be a week or so to get it all done.
Our large project is going good looks to be still be late April or May we hope. It could be a late as June that this project is all taken care of.
UPDATE: With all that the new chickens have been through over the last 24 to 36 hours I still got an egg from one of them

Needing a little TLC

Sunday, March 20, 2011
Yesterday we got a baby chick that was deformed, the store that we got it at was most likely was just going to let her die so we brought her home and got her all set up. The deformed part is that she has two extra feed and peeps from the rear, yes that is peeps from the rear. Most likely it was a double yolk egg that just did not form correctly. She has made it through the night and seems to be doing good. If she makes it she is going to be a very friendly chicken and that is one of the things that I am going to love about her. I have no idea what breed that she is and really don't care for I was a person that gave her a chance to live where most would have killed her, so what that she is different.
I am not sure if you can see the extra legs but they are behind her. We have named here Fourwheeler for the time. If you can think of a better name please put it in the comments.

White chicken, brown egg

Wednesday, March 16, 2011
Well, I checked for eggs this morning and found that Bella was in the nest. I am thinking that she is laying brown eggs after all and that would explain three eggs yesterday.
I am not getting my garden in as fast as I want to and I might not be able to since we have the big project going.

Egg game

Tuesday, March 15, 2011
The chickens are doing good at the egg game as I will call it. I got 3 eggs today out of just two chickens being that all three eggs were brown and I only have two hen that lay brown eggs. My one chicken Bella(white eggs) I do not think is going to be a layer since I feel that she is to old to be laying any eggs. I will keep her around to help with the bugs and that till I can get more chickens. I hope to have at least 7 or more. I would like to be able to have an average of 4 to 6 eggs a day to feed us.
I love to bake and cook large casseroles that use eggs. I make a breakfast casserole that I use 8 to 12 eggs in that will feed us for two the three days. I would also like to start making quiche and other egg dishes.
We are working on a very large project at this time that is a secret for the time. I will talk about it later after we know more. We are looking at about 2 month till we are sure of what is going to happen with the project. I will tell you this... I am going crazy with this one.

First egg

Thursday, March 10, 2011

Well it finally happen the first egg from my chickens was given to me this afternoon by Louise. She laid it right on the ground so when I went in to get there afternoon scratch there is was. I fixed a place in an old suitcase for them to lay there eggs in since it might take them some time to get up to the egg boxes that are in the hen house.
Bella is also an older chicken and I don't think she will be able to get up to the egg boxes that are in the hen house if she lays any eggs. The boxes are almost 4 and half feet off the ground. For the most part all I have gotten in the egg boxes is shit and tons of it, just think how the plants will grow next year with all that in my compost pile.

Learning a lot of new things

Sunday, March 6, 2011
I have been working on keep the house clean and not let it get out of hand. After the move we are having to change the way we shop. We can not just go out ever week and shop for it is 45 minute to 1 hour to get to town to do the shopping and gas is getting high. We are now going into town about every other week depending on what town we are going to. This weekend we went to Fayetteville a large city that is a little over an hour away and got a Sams Club membership so that we can buy in bulk.
A lot of the stuff that we get, we can get there in Bulk and it will last us for a month or better. I am going to start making the Duggar Family laundry soap and us other ideas of theres to help us save money and let me have all my animals. Speaking of animals looks like I am going to be getting more than I though here in the next few weeks. I am looking for more chickens(hopefully laying) the pig is still with its mother and I still have to get the pen build. I am going to have to fence off an area for a goat, yes I am going to be able to get a goat since my landlord now has 4 and one is ready to pop. I am hopping that I will be getting one of the little ones once it is weaned, but it has to be female so I can get milk later. That will really help with the milk bill and it is so much better for you.
Last night was a fun night, My husband was wondering what I was yelling and cussing at and it was the dumb dogs chasing a skunk, well the little one was, but the bigger one was the one that got hit, yep sprayed and that was so fun to work with. We did find something that works really good. 1 QT Hydrogen Peroxide(h2o2) 1\4 cup Baking soda and a tablespoon of dish soap(dawn is best) We used it once and it worked good enough that we did no smell it to bad, but it is still there some. I ran out of h2o2. We are going to be stocking up on all these supplies since I do live is skunk country.
